(More customer reviews)The country living grain mill is simply the best.It's solidly built to last a lifetime and easy to use.You really can't appreciate this mill until you try a cheaper one.It seems a little pricy, but you get what you pay for.If you are serious about grinding your own wheat (beans, corn etc) don't waste your time and money on anything less.You will either be discouraged and quit or you will eventually upgrade to a nicer mill like this one.

I bought mine about a year ago because I made the mistake of grinding my own wheat to make bread.I had a cheaper (but still quite serviceable) millHand Grain Mill for beer making.The difference in flavor and texture of fresh ground wheat flour is profound.It hooked me immediately and I have never gone back.The trouble is, grinding wheat flour by hand can be a soul destroying task.My next purchase was an electric mill.BlendTec Kitchen Mill - Grain and Flour Mill.It worked as advertised, but it was LOUD and cleanup was a real chore.

I finally broke down and bought the country living mill and motorized it using a belt drive and electric motor.It works perfectly fine without the motor, but I am very lazy.If you want to hand crank it, an extension bar for the hand crank is a nice addition that will make the job almost effortless.

This is a genuine flour mill that produces excellent fine flour in a single pass...or you can open it up to make a courser meal or a cracked grain.It works with any non-oily seeds and would probably serve for oil seeds if you were patient and cleaned the working parts frequently.It has very large steel plates that make short work of turning wheat into flour.You have to try it to really feel the difference, but I love mine and would buy another if mine were lost.

I highly recommend this product whether you want to run it by hand, by bicycle or by motor.As far as I am concerned, it's the best hand mill available anywhere.

Oster 10-Speed Blender - White Review

(More customer reviews)This blender does crush ice and makes my smoothies with ease (the recipe's in my book, Feeding the Kids!). I have even ground coffee with the blender a few times. Its motor is holding up well after around 2 years of heavy usage and washings in the dishwasher.

The other review mentioned leaking. The blender only leaks when you put the rubber gasket on below the blade attachment. It's an easy mistake to make--and an easy mistake to correct. There is a note engraved on the blade attachment showing just where to put the gasket, but it's not very noticeable unless you look for it.

My main complaint is that the lid of the blender is very poorly made and warped in the dishwasher. Also, the middle part of the lid fell into the blender and was pureed into my soup while I was blending it. That's a major design flaw. The lid is the main reason I give this product 3 stars.

Update: It finally died after about 4 years of fairly heavy usage. The motor still works, but the stem that spins snapped off. I did have to replace the rubber gasket, blades, lid and glass jar (my fault, I dropped it) over the years--but still, an OK blender for the price.

(More customer reviews)I ordered a back-up bowl for my mixer for "just in case" or those times I was doing lots of baking and didn't want to wash the bowl every time I needed to prepare something different.I could simply change bowls.Although this product arrived in a very timely manner and was marked as being for Kitcheaid 5-quart tip mixer, the company has apparently changed the size of the base where it screws in.This one was about 1/4" smaller in diameter than my original, so this was unusable for me and it had to be returned.

Now for a cup of soybeans I have milk for the week. For two dollars I got milk for months. This is great. The milk comes out smooth and delicious. I tend to mix sugar or caramel or whatever my tastes are for the week just to change it up. Its delicious with my tea. A little patience in having to clean the item but it is fantastic. NEW 2009 Soymilk Maker - SoyQuick Premier Milk Maker 930P Review

(More customer reviews)Though I've made nut milks by hand for years, I've never had a soy milk maker before so I have no comparison with using other home milk makers. I have however been drinking commercial soy milk since before the major companies figured out the 180 degree process and got rid of the bitter flavor - so I know what soy milk tastes like when that's done wrong! Urk!

I can say for sure that the 930P does what it should - keeps the soy beans at 180 degrees F for the whole grinding and cooking process. It's easy to set up, a snap to clean (truly takes 2 minutes) and is totally simple to use. It makes soy, rice, nut and mungbean milks perfectly. The soy milk tastes clean and fresh - and like soy beans :D

So many people seem to get a soy milk maker and want the soy milk to taste like what you drink in the store. For that, you have to add what they add to commercial milk: sugar, salt, vanilla, calcium, vitamins A and D, carrageen/guar gum and various other possibilities. I like the straight soy milk, but my kids want something more familiar and I wanted soymilk that I could use as creamer in my tea, so I've been working with various recipes to get as close to their familiar Soy Dream as possible.

My closest attempt so far:
*1/2 cup soy beans, soaked over night and de-skinned (crush and rub the soybeans, the skins will collect in the water above the beans to remove)
*1/3 cup of millet (this does 2 things - gives that thicker creamier feel and a light sweet taste)

Put these in the Soy Quick and make milk according to the Soymilk setting. When done, strain through the strainer and then strain again through a permanent coffee filter (I really do recommend this second straining - the wire mesh included strainer is great, but anyone used to commercial soymilk expects absolutely no particulate. It's an extra 5 bucks and well worth it.). Now add:

*1/4 cup of brown sugar (we like brown, it may be way too strong for others though)
*1/2 tsp of salt
*1/2 tsp vanilla
*(calcium carbonate if you want it - provides calcium, but also gives that heavy creamy after-taste you are familiar with from commercial soy milk)

Stir and let cool. Refrigerate in an air-tight container.

I want to try barley malt as sweetener - I think it would give an even better flavor than brown sugar for the kids :)

I have also made mung bean milk (a nice addition to other milks at about a 1:3 ratio - it has good medicinal qualities), hazelnut milk and almond milk. They all turn out great! I particularly like hazelnut milk and think it makes great smoothies. I would love to try ice cream made from hazelnut milk!

A word to the wise - almond milk is probably the easiest transition for anyone who is used to commercial milks. You don't have to add much of anything to get it tasting like something familiar :)
